It is a well known fact and well documented that the vegetarians are more healthier than that those who eat meat.  Vegetarians seem to more less obese and mostly do not suffer from diseases like hypertension, colon cancer, diabetes or even arthritis.  Their chances of acquiring a heart disease is also far less.  Vegetarians seem to have very optimal blood pressure regardless of how much salt they and how less they exercise.

The main reason for such good health found in vegetarians is the fact that the vegetarians consume adequate amount of fiber than that of meat eaters.  Thus it reduces the cholesterol and blood sugar level.  Vegetarians also consume antioxidants in adequate quantity which is much needed to protect your heart from acquiring heart disease as well as cancer.

Vegetarians also consume more isoflavones than that of the regular meat eaters.  This is mostly found in soy based foods.  It has been proven isoflavones reduces the chances of getting prostate cancer.

Vegetarians also intake far low cholesterol and saturated fat than the meat eaters which is the sole cause of acquiring many diseases.  Even consuming vegetarian food has good effect on the environment and helps protect the animals.  Thus vegetarians have a more balanced life both physically and mentally.

Atkins and Diabetes control

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

Atkins Diet has laid a good foundation of healthy eating and a more balanced eating rather than the regular diet that Americans consume.  The main stress being given on less carbohydrate and adequate protein diet.  This is actually totally opposite of what an average American consumes which consists of mostly junk food and lots of hidden sugar and high in carbohydrates and hence more and more people are suffering from diabetes these days.

The root cause of diabetes lies on the glycemic index that every food that we eat carries.  The more the glycemic index, there is the more chance of getting diabetes.

As children, we were able to digest and process these foods easily because all our functionality of our body functions efficiently when we were young.  But as we grow old the same diet consumption lead to obesity as well as diabetes.

Blood sugar can be adequately controlled using Atkins diet.  The healthy combination of fats, protein and adequate carbohydrate will keep body fit and disease free.  Carbohydrate control with the amount consumed as well as the type will actually control the spikes in insulin.  Hence this will mean that your diabetes will be under control or if started early, the chances of acquiring diabetes is less.
